Sir C.V. Raman discovered the "Raman Effect" on February 28, 1928, which is now celebrated as National Science Day in India. Sir C.V.Raman discovered that visible white light is made up of seven colors, which is now known as VIBGYOR representing the visible spectrum of light (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red), having different effects based on their wavelengths. Invisible rays such as X-rays, ultraviolet rays, infra-red rays, radio and microwave in the electromagnetic spectrum is more harmful than visible spectrum.
Colour therapy, also called as chromotherapy, is a non-invasive therapy that uses the rainbow colours (visible spectrum) for healing. Colour was investigated as medicine since 2000 BC. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks used coloured minerals, stones, crystals, salves and dyes as remedies. The ancient Ayurvedic physician, Charaka, who lived in the sixth century BC, recommended sunlight to treat a variety of diseases. These seven chakras resonate with the seven rainbow colours, that is, the chakras and their corresponding colours vibrate in the same frequencies. The colour therapy is thus based on the principle that the qualities of each rainbow colour brings about a shift in the energy and restores energy balance in the body, thereby healing the body.Physically speaking, the light through the eyes reaches not only the visual centres of the brain but also the hypothalamus that links the nervous system to the endocrine system and is involved in the key processes such as
• Heart rate and blood pressure
• Maintaining body temperature
• Appetite and thirst
• Electrolyte balance in the body
• Stimulating pituitary glands to release hormones
• Glandular secretions
• Sleep cycles
Coloured light has been found to be specifically beneficial in balancing the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Laser light therapy has been shown to
• Decrease healing time of wounds and ulcers
• Decrease oedema
• Facilitate bone remineralisation
Later in 1980s, a sophisticated system known as Esogetic Colorpuncture Therapy (ECT), was developed by Peter Mandel in Germany. He used a battery operated penlight with interchangeable coloured tips for focussing light on the points. Disorders that are successfully treated with this method are endocrine deficiency, inflammatory processes and degenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, migraines, childhood insomnia, bronchitis, ADD or learning disorders, and uterine fibroids. Similarly, in Charles McWilliams system of chromopressure , colours of the spectrum are used on acupuncture and other pressure points. His ChromoPressure Unit is solar powered, concentrating sunlight over the points, and filtered through interchangeable coloured slides. The system can treat even obesity and chronic toxicity by stimulating lymphatic drainage.
Colours for treating disorders in human
Green light is more effective than red in treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
1 Black It can evoke a range of emotions and associations, from power and sophistication to mystery and sadness. It expresses rebellious, non conformity, comfort and control, simplicity and minimalism.
Fertilizationin human is more successful in natural condition in the reproductive system (total darkness) than by assisted reproductive techniques (85% success rate) since in laboratory fertilization takes place under infrared light.
2 White Treatment of cancers, SAD (seasonal affective disorder, so-called winter depression), anorexia, bulimia nervosa, insomnia, jetlag, shift working, alcohol and drug dependency, and to reduce overall levels of medication.
3 Violet Often associated with creativity, luxury, and spiritual awareness. It can evoke feelings of peace, comfort, and emotional balance, potentially serving as a psychological buffer against negative emotions. Used in the management of inflammation and Pain, wound healing and skin conditions, mood disorders and circadian dysfunction, neonatal Jaundice, ambiguity and ambivalence.
4 Indigo A colour between blue and violet, can evoke feelings of trust, reliability, luxury, and spirituality, and is often associated with intuition and wisdom. Linked with wellness practices andin yoga and meditation spaces.
5 Blue Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, neonatal jaundiceaddictions, eating disorders and depression. Healing injured tissue and preventing scar tissue, as well as for burns and lung conditions.
6 Green It is often associated with nature, evoking feelings of calmness, balance, and serenity, a relaxing colour for the human eye. It can also be linked to growth, hope, and renewal. As effective in treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD), eye diseases and diabetes.
7 Yellow It is often associated with happiness, Stimulates behaviour, optimism, and energy, but excessive exposure can lead to anxiety or fatigue, and it can also be used as a warning colour due to its high visibility. Also, treats liver disease, gall bladder disease, and disorders of stomach and intestine. Lemon yellow is the colour of the pancreas. It is a laxative and diuretic.
8 Orange It is often associated with happiness, enthusiasm, and warmth, potentially boosting mood and encouraging social interaction. Used in treatment of arteriosclerosis, cardiac insufficiency and diabetes
9 Red It is associated with strong emotions, often evoking feelings of passion, energy, and excitement, potentially anger or danger, and can influence physiological responses like increased heart rate and blood pressure. Effective in the treatment of cancer constipation and in healing wounds.
Negative effect of blue light (400 to 480 nm)
Over exposure of artificial light (LED lights) is responsible for breast cancer throughout the world. Yellow light from Tungsten bulbs is safer than tube or LED lights. The blue light from these sources (TV, Mobiles) wakes up cancer cell from sleep during night.
In this book published from Germany we discussed this phenomenon by developing a blind women model. Menopausal woman who is at higher risk of developing breast cancer, blind menopausal woman DONOT DEVELOP ANY CANCER AT ALL. The take home point is that every lady should sleep in total darkness. Hope you remain healthy by taking care of light pollution. (The author has his own study and views)
